Alliance boosts convergence

The Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (Might) is to forge additional strategic alliances with South Korea, especially in the areas of automotive and aerospace, reports Bernama.

According to Might senior vice-president, Kamarulzaman Zainal, the forum acts as a platform for Malaysian businesses to tap South Korea's expertise in broadcast and telecommunication convergence technologies.

Apple drives mobile computing

Apple claims it's ready to bridge the mobile computing gap, with plans to develop a device that fits in between the iPhone and the MacBook, states CNN.

CEO Steve Jobs has been working on a mid-sized mobile device, a 'media pad' that's bigger than an iPhone but smaller than a MacBook.

The media pad would let users watch videos on a larger screen than an iPod Touch or Amazon Kindle, but on a device that's more portable than notebooks and lacks a keyboard.

Acision powers Globe mobile convergence

Global messaging company, Acision, and Globe Telecom have rolled out a fully convergent solution that works across both fixed and mobile networks for post-paid subscribers, says Phil Star.com.

Acision Flexible Charger and Acision Location Gateway enable Globe Telecom to offer its post-paid mobile and fixed-line subscribers free voice calls when the calls originate within a pre-defined geographical zone.

This new service is branded 'Duo-mobile and landline in one' by Globe Telecom and offers unlimited phone calls within a set city zone.
