JSE-listed Adapt IT has been ranked as SA's leading empowerment company, while Altech came in fifth in the Financial Mail and Empowerdex Top Empowerment Companies 2011 survey.
Adapt IT Group is a level 3 B-BBEE contributor and value adding enterprise, and has an Empowerdex AAA rating. Its board is half black, and 25% of executive management is black. Empowerment ownership and voting rights are at 37%.
CEO Sbu Shabalala says it's “not just about what we deliver, but the legacy we leave behind”.
Craig Venter, Altech CEO, says the award recognises the transformation work that has been done over the last few years to all elements of broad-based black economic empowerment within the company.
Altech is a level 3 B-BBEE contributor, having achieved a 110% procurement recognition level, 28.6% black ownership and 13.2% black female ownership, scoring maximum points in these areas.
The survey results were compiled after collecting data from companies listed on the main board of the JSE. The survey is now in its eighth year and aims to provide public with a snapshot of the empowerment status of JSE-listed companies.
