Altech ISIS has bought French company MobiMaster, a provider of a real-time telecoms billing system, for an undisclosed sum.

The seller, listed French company Linedata Services, says MobiMaster is a non-strategic asset that came into its fold when it acquired another firm, ESDS, at the end of 2003.

"This activity generates sales of less than 2 million euros," Linedata says.

The deal, conditional upon South African Reserve approval, includes the acquisition and transfer of the telecoms billing intellectual property rights, as well as all MobiMaster staff and customer contracts.

Altech says the MobiMaster product complements Altech ISIS`s iCAP products, and Altech CEO Craig Venter says integrating the products will allow the company to offer a real-time converged customer care and billing solution.

Altech ISIS MD Johan Gellatly says MobiMaster`s product can also be applied to environments outside telecoms, including broadband operators, utility providers and toll road billing enterprises.

Venter adds: "Through the acquisition, Altech ISIS will gain access to telecommunications markets in French-speaking countries and have a presence in France to service the EMEA (Europe, Middle East and Africa) region to meet the Altech ISIS international strategic initiatives," says Venter.

"Telecommunication operators currently using the MobiMaster system include Bouygues Telecom and Libertis."

The deal also adds customers in Gabon and the Caribbean to Altech ISIS`s existing customer base in SA, Tanzania, Democratic Republic of Congo and Nigeria.
