Altiris, now part of Symantec and a pioneer of service-oriented management solutions, today announced the expansion of the Altiris Developer Programme with addition of the Altiris Developer Portal and a third-party price list.

The developer programme now offers software and hardware compatibility testing and certification for Altiris developer partners through AppLabs.

These additions to the programme help streamline the development and delivery of new customer, partner and ISV-developed solutions on the Altiris service-oriented management platform.

A subscription to the Altiris Developer Programme provides software development kits (SDKs), support services, and developer communities to help extend the Altiris platform. Additionally, the Developer Programme now offers the Altiris Developer Portal as a central resource for the latest SDK and documentation updates, a developer-oriented discussion forum, a library of frequently asked questions, and supplemental sample code.

Many ISVs and Altiris partners have recognised an opportunity to leverage the Altiris channel and have built or integrated solutions with the Altiris platform for the enterprise IT market. Some of the technologies created and certified by Developer Programme partners are now available from the Altiris third-party price list and include:

* CARD Asset Disposal Plug-in - End-of-life asset disposal and tracking for regulatory compliance and cost recovery
* Hardware Independent Imaging Solution (HIIS) by Altrinsic Solutions - Provides complete process automation to support and maintain hardware independent image deployment
* Scense 4.0 - Supplements Altiris Software Virtualization Solution with user-based application provisioning and full terminal server and Citrix support

Altiris selected AppLabs quality assurance services to verify, test and certify Developer Programme hardware and software solutions integrated with the Altiris platform.

"Our customers and partners help keep the Altiris management platform innovative," said Dwain Kinghorn, vice-president of engineering, Altiris Business Unit, Symantec. "This has never been more evident since the launch of the Developer Programme. We are helping our end-users get the most out of their Altiris investment by providing them with the ability to develop their own solutions and, in the process, we are now able to offer integrated and certified third-party and OEM solutions to the rest of the world."
