With businesses having to cater for the demands of Internet usage and e-commerce, a server`s ability to keep up with aggressive demands for high performance and quality is paramount. To meet these specific requirements, Acer has introduced its Altos 1200 mid-range server, designed for the small and medium-sized business environment.
"Hardworking companies need a distinct server advantage - one that will support unexpected needs and make the best use of their budget, while guaranteeing performance," says Hilton Haefele, Acer product manager: servers.
Haefele maintains that the principal advantages for small to medium-sized businesses using this server are the high level of support provided and the expansion capabilities that can be delivered to fulfil networking requirements. "These benefits can all be met, while the organisation concurrently saves on management costs.
"A better design essentially means a better server," he explains. "The Altos 1200 embodies this, bringing a new design philosophy to the market which provides a high-level of performance quality not often seen in a mid-range server."
100/133MHz Front Side Bus speeds guarantee system performance, making the most of the product`s Dual Intel Pentium III processors to ensure responsive, efficient and critical data storage. The chassis is designed to accommodate enterprise expansion and maintenance requirements. Equipped with a hot-swappable hard disk cage, up to six 73GB SCSI HDDs can be installed, bringing total storage expandability to 438GB.
The Altos 1200`s smart design also covers the rest of the system architecture, with integrated solutions that feature an Ultra 160/m SCSI, super VGA and a 10/100 Base-T LAN controller. Says Haefele: "All of these features are embedded, which frees up PCI slots, reduces device outlay expenditures and eliminates the threat of downtime from device failure.
"Additionally, the server`s fully rack-mountable profile provides flexibility and scalability," he explains.
