Amazon expands Simple Storage System
Amazon Web Services is developing a content delivery service that will allow Amazon Simple Storage System (S3) customers to deliver files upon demand quickly and efficiently, says Information Week.
The new service is being tested by a small group of Amazon Web Services beta customers and will be made available to all customers before the end of 2008.
Tal Saraf, general manager of the Amazon Web Services content delivery service, said the service would adhere to a pay-per-use, no-contract philosophy.
VMware tackles storage costs
VMware unveiled its vStorage offering designed to help customers reduce their storage costs, states Vnunet.
VStorage is just one component of VMware's Virtual Datacentre Operating System, a strategy which the firm claims will allow businesses to aggregate all hardware resources, servers, storage and networks into an on-premises cloud.
The system will use new technologies such as thin provisioning and 'linked clones' to maximise the efficient use of storage by virtual machines.

IBM's storage revenue grew more than 14% year-over-year, nearly three times the growth rate of EMC and nearly double that of HP.
According to the IDC report, IBM grew in numerous storage software categories and maintained its long-standing leadership position in the Archive Software category.
