Amazon lobs Oracle onto servers

Amazon will soon offer Oracle Database 11g Release 2 as well as MySQL from its sky-high relational database service, says The Register.

The company plans to lob the Oracle database onto its so-called cloud sometime in the second quarter, as it announced with a blog post

In October 2009, the etailer cum virtual infrastructure maven released its Amazon Relational Database Service, which was essentially MySQL running atop the company's Elastic Compute Cloud. Both are part of the company's overall Amazon Web Services offering.

Dutch telco to deploy VOD servers

Dutch telco KPN has selected VOD servers from Swedish firm Edgeware as part of a solution provided by Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN), writes IPTV News.

NSN has selected Edgeware's Orbit-2X and WebTV servers as part of the Ubiquity Multiscreen TV solution it is providing to KPN.

Edgeware's Orbit video server platform features the ability to record live TV channels, enabling KPN to deliver advanced on-demand services to its subscribers, as well as offer advanced linear TV functions.

Varsity eyes virtualisation servers

The University of Salford is set to overhaul its centre infrastructure in the coming year by adopting a new cloud computing solution, notes One Stop Click.

According to the institution, the 13-month project will see it transform its dedicated access technologies with various virtualisation processes, which will allow it to operate effective shared services.

The cloud-computing based solution will involve the virtualisation of servers, storage and integrated networking equipment.
