Amazon video streaming comes to Xbox
Amazon is making its Instant Video library available to Microsoft Xbox 360 devices, widening the pool of on-demand, streaming video content for Xbox Live Gold subscribers, Mashable reports.
Console owners can now browse, rent, purchase and immediately stream some 120 000 movies and TV episodes through Amazon's Instant Video app in the Xbox Live Marketplace.
The addition of the Xbox 360 widens Amazon's connected device reach. Instant Video is available on the PlayStation 3, Roku and an assortment of Blu-ray players and HDTV sets.
According to Tech Crunch, the Instant Video app also supports Amazon's Whispersync syncing service.
This allows Amazon's users to start watching videos on their TVs and then finish watching them on their Kindle Fires, for example. The app obviously also gives users access to their previously bought videos, as well as their watchlists.
A subscription to Xbox Live Gold starts at $5 a month, writes CNet.
Amazon Prime is a membership program that costs $79 annually and offers customers free two-day shipping on their purchases. In addition, members get access to the expanding pool of movies in Prime Instant Video.
