AMD counters Intel
On the eve of the Intel Developer Forum, AMD executives said the company's 45-nanometer Shanghai processor will enter the market by the fourth quarter of 2008, reports eWeek.com.
The AMD processor is designed to compete against the Intel Nehalem processor.

Lenovo updates notebooks
The Lenovo ThinkPad X301 notebook is an updated version of the ultrathin ThinkPad X300 laptop that Lenovo released earlier this year, says eWeek.com.
Lenovo is updating its ThinkPad notebook line with the X301 laptop, which will include new, low-volt Intel processors and a larger solid-state drive option, and builds on the company's much-talked-about ThinkPad X300 notebook.
Where Lenovo has made improvements is with the Intel processors, the ThinkPad X301 offers a pair of not-yet-released Intel ultralow-volt processors that the PC vendor lists as the U9300, which has a clock speed of 1.2GHz, and the U9400, which has a clock speed of 1.4GHz.
AMD boosts business desktops
The release of new AMD Athlon and Phenom processors will help AMD round out its processor lineup for the chip maker's recently released business desktop platform, reports eWeek.com.
The new AMD processors, which the company announced Aug. 14, include a high-end, quad-core Phenom X4 9750B (2.4GHz) processor and a triple-core Phenom X3 8750B (2.4GHz) chip.
AMD also released a pair of dual-core core Athlon processors: the Athlon X2 5600B (2.9GHz) and the Athlon X2 4850B (2.5GHz).
