AMR Research names Mercury the market leader in IT portfolio management

Johannesburg, 28 Jun 2004

A June 2004 AMR Research report `IT Portfolio Management Software: Clear Benefits, Converging Marketplace` awarded Mercury Interactive with the highest ranking, naming Mercury the market leader in IT software.

Mercury, the global leader in business technology optimisation (BTO), was ranked the market leader over 14 IT portfolio management vendors for having the best combination of product capability, referenceability, overall company direction and financial strength.

"From a company standpoint, Mercury is performing extremely well and is one of the fastest-growing companies in the software market," reported Dennis Gaughan and Carline Durocher (in the AMR Research Report). "There are many vendors in the portfolio management market, but the landscape is consolidating rapidly. The winners are the vendors that can help IT organisations deliver portfolio management in the context of their overall IT governance strategy."

Mercury scored a 4.0 rating or above, based on a 5.0 point scale, in five out of eight assessment categories and more than double any other vendor. Mercury was the only company to score a 4.0 in both the product and company assessment categories. The report defines Mercury as "setting the pace that other IT vendors are following".

The AMR Research Report also stated that "one of the most common themes, from the 50 customer reference interviews that were conducted for this research, was that IT portfolio management is about the IT process. One of the things that that references were looking for was clear best practices on optimising the process. Most references recognised that IT portfolio management is just a part of their overall IT governance strategy."

"We have been working with our customers and for years to deliver the most comprehensive IT governance offering in the market," says Raj Jain, general manager of IT governance at Mercury. "Mercury is honoured to be recognised as the market leader by AMR Research."
