AmVia awarded International Distributor of the Year

Johannesburg, 16 May 2001

Leading value-added distributor of converged unified communications and mobile business solutions, AmVia - Voicematix, has won the coveted International Distributor of the Year award surpassing its European, American, Asian and Antipodean peers.

The award was bestowed on AmVia at AVT`s 2001 Global Partner Summit held in Orlando, Florida, USA. AVT, is the global leader in unified communications with its RightFAX, CallXpress and Infinite product line. The award represents a major feat for a South African company that operates in what is often viewed as one of the `smaller` markets.

Founding AmVian, Gil Caplan says, "Although we operate exclusively in the South African and New Zealand markets, the true counter of our success is our dominant market share. We have the highest percentage (almost double of the nearest competitor) of market share in the regions in which we operate. This can be put down to three factors - focus, focus and focus. We only distribute, deploy and support products which fall in the unified communications landscape."

The award confirms AmVia`s success in a deflated economy recording record revenues for its third quarter in 2000/2001. AmVia`s Mission Controller, Kevin Hurwitz says, "Our business partner reseller base is maturing rapidly with them recognising unified communications as a critical part of IT infrastructure. Not only has our partner base grown exponentially but their individual performance also lays testament to increased revenues."

AmVia plans to launch three new product lines in the next quarter. This includes Messagemate - a digital call management system for SMEs, ThruFAX - Fax to E-mail conversion routing software and Infinite - mobile delivery solutions.

AVT also announced a re-branding effort designed to better reflect the company`s strategy and its extended reach into the growing mobile wireless market. Known for over 19 years as an innovator in unified communications, AVT Corp. changed the company name to Captaris Inc. As of 9 April 2001, its NASDAQ trading symbol will become CAPA.

With branding being a key component to any successful business strategy, the company will build equity around the Captaris name and its tagline, "Business Within Your Reach".

"Putting business within the reach of our customers is what Captaris is all about," says Joseph A Staples, executive vice president of emerging technology and corporate marketing for Captaris. "Whether you`re talking about our unified messaging products, our network and broadcast fax products and services or our mobile offerings, our entire value proposition is that we allow users the freedom to do business and access business information how and when they want."
