AmVia solves the inbound fax problem

Johannesburg, 17 May 2001

AmVia - Voicematix has announced that it has obtained exclusive distribution rights in South Africa for Onset`s Thrufax software. Thrufax offers a cost-effective alternative for companies requiring DiD faxing - Thrufax converts faxes electronically recognises the recipient and forwards the document automatically to the individual`s inbox.

AmVia says that Thrufax is a momentous advance in document management since e-mail and leverages the efficiencies of AmVia`s unified communications platform and document management to a whole new level.

ThruFax enables users, no matter where they are, to receive fax messages immediately as textual, editable e-mail on any e-mail-capable device - PC, laptop, PDA, mobile phone, wireless - with formatted Microsoft Word and fax image files attached. When implemented with AmVia`s text-to-speech engine, ThruFax enables users to hear their faxes over the phone.

AmVia`s mission controller, Kevin Hurwitz says, ""ThruFax solves the inbound fax routing problem for enterprises of all sizes. It not only solves the problem of lost faxes and time-wasting transport of faxes from the fax machine/fax server to the user`s desktop, but also saves a great deal of time and anxiety for travelling business people. With ThruFax complementing our unified messaging offering executives and business managers can actually scan the subject matter and sender of the fax in their e-mail window before opening their e-mail message. They can even store and search for these messages by subject, sender, or content. That saves valuable money and time for enterprises, even beyond what they save on internal enterprise routing."

ThruFax also features the unique ability to identify and route faxes that arrive on company forms. For example, businesses can configure ThruFax to route all employee time sheets to the HR department, all credit applications to the purchasing department, and all customer registration forms to the data entry department. The ThruFax 2.0 Forms Module works seamlessly with forms-processing applications from vendors such as Cardiff (see www.cardiff.com). Another new feature is the Handwriting Module, which incorporates Parascript`s FieldScript Total Recognition software, enabling it to read fax addressee information written in cursive and hand print so that it can automatically route these faxes to the correct addressee.

Hurwitz concludes, "Thrufax is the leader in giving non-e-mail messages e-mail-like qualities when they are received to unified messaging inboxes. With faxes, for example, ThruFax enables you to see who sent them and their subjects in their one-line inbox listings - and then to reply to them with a single mouse click. These kinds of enhancements will be especially important when it comes to wireless messaging."
