Mustek has formally announced its distributorship of the Acer product range in SA, joining existing local distributors, Axiz and Tarsus.
“We know that Pinnacle has recently bought Axiz, but we believe that we are competitive enough,” says Mustek's Acer product manager, Andrada Manu. “I don't see any reason why we can't make it in this market.”
According to Manu, the Acer range is considered a tier-one product and can compete with the likes of HP and Dell. “It's a great brand and we are all very excited - this is a great start to the year for us.”
Manu says Mustek is confident it has a competitive-edge. “Our major advantage lies in our after-sale support services.
“We see the Acer range as pull, rather than push, products. We didn't bring in the new brand to compete with our other products, but rather to allow us to compete in the tier-one product market.”
Manu adds that feedback from Mustek clients so far has been positive. “I would say that at least 90% of our clients are excited about this new move.”
Local competitor Axiz is not concerned about the new competition. The company's chief marketing officer, Craig Brunsden, says: “While new competitors are always a threat, we expect little impact from Mustek on our Acer business.
“We were expecting a new Acer distributor and believe Mustek plays in a different reseller space and hence is not a direct threat to our business.”
