Analytix has announced the addition of a business continuity management (BCM) training course to its already existing IT governance and information security training portfolio.
The Analytix PAS56 BCM Foundation training is aligned with the Business Continuity Institute`s (BCI) 10 certification standards and Good Practice Guidelines (GPG), as well as the British Standards Institute`s (BSI) Publicly Available Specification PAS56 Guide to BCM.
According to Johan Botha, Managing Director of Analytix: "PAS56 and the BCI`s Good Practice Guidelines for Business Continuity Management benchmark the level of business continuity and disaster recovery provision an organisation should attain and offer the general process for achieving this.
"However, because of its generic nature, PAS56 raises important implementation issues for top management as well as business continuity managers," Botha continues. "In conjunction with the Business Continuity Institute (BCI), the British Standards Institute (BSI) has published a guide that clearly defines the process, principles and terminology of BCM.
"The market has reacted very positively to the PAS56 BCM training, indicating that there is a need for South African organisations to align their BCM activities and strategies to an acknowledged standard.
"A large number of the leading financial institutions attended the PAS56 training since the introduction of the PAS 56 BCM Foundation course in December 2005," says Botha.
PAS56 ensures mission-critical activities and key risk scenarios are included in the business continuity plan, and that businesses responses to adverse situations are both timely and appropriate.
PAS56 is of relevance to all businesses regardless of size and industry sector; it is equally important to businesses that have already implemented and developed a BCM programme as it is to those that need to upgrade their business continuity arrangements to meet new risks and threat scenarios.
The two-day practical PAS56 BCM Foundation course provides delegates with a comprehensive understanding of business continuity management. On completion of the course, delegates will be able to successfully implement, manage and maintain business continuity plans and disaster recovery plans within their organisations. By understanding the process involved in BCM, participants will also be better prepared to review and audit existing plans.

BSI
BSI British Standards is the National Standards Body of the UK and develops standards and standardisation solutions to meet the needs of business and society. It works with government, businesses and consumers to represent UK interests and facilitate the production of British, European and international standards.
PAS56
BSI, in conjunction with the BCI, has published a guide which establishes the process, principles and terminology of BCM. Specifically, PAS56 describes the activities and `outcomes` necessary to establish a business continuity management process, and offers a series of recommendations for good practice. It provides a generic management framework for incident anticipation and response, as well as describing evaluation techniques and criteria.
BCI
The Business Continuity Institute (BCI) was established in 1994 to enable members to obtain guidance and support from fellow business continuity practitioners. Through its certification scheme, the institute provides internationally recognised status to its members as professional membership of the BCI demonstrates the members` competence to carry out business continuity management to a consistent high standard.
