Google started rolling out its Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update this weekend, including a number of evolutionary updates and one glaring error - the omission of the month of December from the People app.
The bug has been reported by multiple users in Google's Android Project forum. The People app is at the core of the social experience on Android, and is the place where users can enter details about each of their contacts, including birthdays, anniversaries and other important dates.
While December is still present in the Calendar app and other features, in the People app, the month picker skips from November to January. This error is reportedly present on any device running the new OS.
The Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update has, however, only been rolled out to Nexus devices so far, and it is expected that Google will release an update to fix the error soon. Google has acknowledged the problem, but has not given any indication of a timeframe for releasing another update.
The glaring oversight aside, some of the notable new features of Android 4.2 include a quick settings menu that can be accessed from the pull-down notifications, and support for multiple user profiles (useful for sharing devices). The update also sees the inclusion of Photo Sphere, which allows for 360-degree panoramic shooting. Gesture typing has also been added to the keyboard.
Google Now can also be used to monitor the user's Gmail account for information such as events you purchased tickets for, flight bookings and hotel reservations. These are then presented as cards that can be easily accessed. The app also sets automatic reminders.
Some Android users who have noticed the lack of the month of December in the update have taken to Twitter to crack some jokes:
"Android 4.2 Jelly Bean is the end of the world edition - December removed because we do not need it anymore."
"Android 4.2 forgets December exists, end of the world averted."
