Android leads mobile platform
Google's Android looks like it may be emerging as the platform of choice for virtualisation on the mobile device, states Read Write Web.
It is still a nascent market and so any market leadership theories don't have tremendous meaning, the report states.
But early signs show that Android has a few things going for it; it's more open than other platforms and it is quickly dominating the overall smartphone market, says the report That lead carries into the world of mobile virtualisation.
Atlanta outlines virtualisation offering
Atlanta has produced a report 'Virtualisation Without Walls' to provide guidance for companies new to virtualisation as to how they could exploit the technology, writes Network World.
It has based the service on products from VMware, Cisco and Compellent. The offering looks very much like the VBlock technology put together by the Acadia grouping with the replacement of EMC by Compellent, the report says.
"Compellent is a better solution than EMC's, Atlanta's technical director Mike Kelson explains. The whole idea of the virtualisation without walls concept is that companies can scale in or scale out as needed, without too many complications - or no frigging in the rigging as Compellent says.”
Survey investigates virtualisation trends
A new study conducted by ESG Research has informed that only 7% of large mid-market organisations and enterprises have not deployed server virtualisation technology and have no plans to do so, says IT Pro Portal.
The research also revealed that 61% of organisations are using server virtualisation technology for testing and development of applications and for creating product environments, according to Network World.
While most of the organisations are using server virtualisation for Web-based applications and print services, many of them fail to use it for transaction-oriented applications or databases.
