Android Market gets in-app billing
The latest feature, introduced last week, means purchases will be possible from within an app. This translates into more billing models, such as trying an app before buying, selling of virtual goods used in games, and selling upgrades.
Google listed several apps already using the service, including Comics by ComiXology, and several games, such as Tap Tap Revenge by Tapulous, Deer Hunter Challenge HD by Glu Mobile, and Dungeon Defenders: FW Deluxe by Trendy Entertainment.
According to Tom's Guide, in-app billing is something most iPhone users are familiar with already. iOS developers have long had the option of offering an app for free, or very little, with the opportunity of upping revenue via in-app purchases made by customers.
Making mobile apps more profitable could be a major boon for the industry, notes the Creative Development.
According to ABI Research, 7.9 billion mobile applications were downloaded by mobile users last year, a number that is only expected to increase in 2011. Downloads for Android reached nearly two billion.
