Annex positions Intel servers at top of its product rack

Johannesburg, 18 Oct 2006

Annex Distribution, local distributor of Intel products, is pleased to announce the availability of Intel Corporation`s SR2500AL - an enterprise-level 2u rack-optimised system level server platform.

Representing Intel`s latest generation in server solutions, the SR2500AL has been brought into the market to address requirements from companies investing in the latest in ICT.

These requirements are primarily focused on enhanced performance, greater speed and reliability while still maintaining a cost-effective solution for IT buyers and enterprise customers.

"Businesses and enterprises appreciate the necessity behind an increase in processing power, reliable memory infrastructure, redundant networking as well as flexibility in data storage and security. These are the fundamentals as far as IT architecture is concerned, no matter what segment of the market you are competing in," explains Shaun Welgemoed, Intel product manager at Annex Distribution.

Intel rack-optimised solutions provide different levels of power and cooling redundancy and flexible storage solutions including 2.5-inch/3.5-inch SATA or SAS drives.

The products also offer support for both tape drives and optical drives.

The SR2500ALLX and SR2500ALBRP both support up to 2x Intel Multi Core Xeon processors, a total of 32GB ECC Fully Buffered DDR2 DIMMs with a system bus speed of 667/1 066/1 333MHz. Both options come with 2x integrated Intel PRO/1000 EB Ethernet connections supporting Intel I/O Acceleration Technology (Intel I/OAT). Raid support includes 0, 1, 5, 10, 50 via the Intel RAID Activation Key.

"The SR2500AL is now available locally and will go a long way to reinforce the overall technical capacity and digital communication capability of organisations. These architectural solutions allow users to extract the maximum benefit and this bodes well for future innovation and solution development," adds Welgemoed.

Additional product information:

* Dual Core Processing multiplies server performance by doubling processing ability on a single chip, without increasing power consumption.
* Dual independent bus architecture enables dedicated data flow to each processor, maximising system performance.
* Fully buffered DIMM memory increases capacity and memory bandwidth to keep pace with the processor and I/O performance enhancements.
* Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology (EM64T) extends the amount available of server memory.
* Intel I/O Acceleration Technology (Intel I/OAT) is a platform innovation that helps get network data to and from server applications faster, while consuming far fewer CPU cycles.
* Intel Virtualisation Technology turns a physical server into multiple systems (virtual machines) allowing multiple operating systems and applications to run inside a single platform.
* Execute Disable Bit reduces exposure to viruses and prevents harmful software from executing on the server or network.
* Enhanced Intel Speedstep Technology allows processors to adjust their operating speeds to meet varying performance needs, while balancing power consumption.
* Two low profile PCI Express x 8, an I/O Expansion Module Slot (PCI Express x4) and an Intel Adaptive Slot4. The user is also presented with the benefit of support for three (non-redundant - BRP SKU only) or six (redundant - LX SKU only) system fans and two power supply module fans.
