Annex product to support Socket AM2 offering

Local distributor of building blocks to the ICT market, Annex Distribution, is to stock the full range of product supporting AMD`s Socket AM 2. This technology was released recently into the market and enables support for DDR 2, which improves overall performance of infrastructure by ensuring that virtualisation becomes better optimised.

The latest technology offering by AMD is intended to address the need for greater performance as advancements in applications and an increase in multimedia usage continue to place pressure on infrastructure. The significance of Socket AM2 lies in the provision of lower voltage and higher frequency headroom.

By using less electricity, AMD Energy Efficient processors can lead to lower energy consumption, therefore contributing reduced energy costs. These processors enable smaller, sleeker form factors and provide the channel more opportunities to compete in the fast-growing small-form factor market.

AMD has not incorporated a great deal of change with the AM2 offering in comparison with previous technology, the Socket 939. The new mount frame has four support points instead of two which offers greater stability and reliability. It no longer requires a stiffener back plate on the underside of the motherboard.
