Oracle Corporation has announced Warehouse Builder, a full range of capabilities for the design, generation, and loading of enterprise data warehouses and e-business intelligence applications. It also manages the data warehouse environment.
Combined with Oracle`s Common Warehouse Model (CWM), Warehouse Builder provides the framework that integrates all the product elements of the Oracle data warehouse.
At the same time it provides the user with the flexibility to use third-party products of choice.
Key features of the Oracle Warehouse Builder - which is tightly integrated with Oracle 8i, the company`s new database offering - include centralised metadata management via CWM and significantly reduced implementation time through the use of visual models, a wizards driven user interface and a library of pre-defined transformations.
High performance data extraction and sophisticated transformation from relational, legacy, flat files and major ERP applications facilitate the effective implementation of a data warehouse.
According to Oracle SA product manager, Ann Mason, Warehouse Builder delivers virtually error-free code generation through its ability to validate objects, mappings and transformations prior to generating the warehouse.
Generated Objects include: tables with foreign, unique and primary keys, views, materialised views, facts, dimensions, hierarchies and levels, indexes, partitions, and tablespaces.
"A characteristic of Oracle Warehouse Builder is fast and accurate data loading," says Mason. "Generated packages use Oracle8i as the transformation engine providing optimised data loading.
"At the same time wizard driven interface generates control files enabling extraction from flat files via conventional or direct path loader.
Effective management of the warehouse environment is possible from any platform using an object-oriented, Java-based framework,"
