Another industry first for DataPro

Johannesburg, 21 Jan 2003

Following the recent announcement that it was the first Internet service provider (ISP) to offer ADSL services to the marketplace, DataPro has scored another industry first by launching an ADSL mail server which solves the user restrictions encountered with current ADSL offerings.

Douglas Reed, managing director of DataPro, said the company`s new mail server offering by-passes the current four-user restriction, allowing companies to link "anything up to 4 000 users".

"Currently ADSL assigns a dynamic IP address which restricts the amount of users to four. However, our new offering extends the ceiling to up to 1 000 users, making ADSL that much more attractive to our clients," he said.

Telkom introduced ADSL in August, with testing periods now under way at certain exchanges in Johannesburg and Pretoria. Cape Town and Durban will be brought on-stream by May 2003.

DataPro`s ADSL product offering is aimed at the heavy household user and the small office, home office (SOHO). All in all the ADSL Household solution offering will cost R785.09 per month and the ADSL SOHO solution R910.52 per month. Upfront costs will be in the region of R2 500 (includes modem and installation). These prices exclude VAT. Customers will use their existing telephone lines.

Reed urged end-users to be "patient" in the early stages of ADSL`s introduction.
