Flat-screen monitor and TV brand AOC has appointed local IT distributor Platinum Micro as a distributor for the South African market.
AOC has operations in more than 100 countries around the globe. The company dates back to 1934 when its predecessor, Admiral, was founded in Chicago. AOC was established in Taiwan in 1967.
“We will have stock within a month and will distribute the monitors nationally through direct channels, which are soon to be finalised,” says Platinum Micro GM Ricky Correia.
Platinum Micro is a subsidiary of MB Technologies.
Correia adds the deal is a “huge brand coup” and a “great opportunity” for the company. “It will lead to a permanent presence in SA for AOC, and we already have a distribution channel reward and incentive scheme in place to attract top resellers.”
Platinum Micro intends to build up the AOC name in the local market and “turn it into a prominent household brand”, says Correia.
The firm will distribute a range of AOC monitors, including the AOC Razor ultra-slim monitors which offer ultra-slim cabinets of 0.92cm thickness and 1.2cm thickness, with screen sizes ranging from 18.5-inches to 23-inches.
Last year, AOC shipped 16 million monitor units worldwide and has maintained average annual growth of more than 20% for the past three years.
It aims to expand its global footprint, with a new focus on Africa, the Middle East and central Asia.
