Aperture Technologies` range of visual workplace and IT asset management software and services has been launched in SA, through local Verang. Pretoria-based Verang was appointed as Aperture Technologies` official Southern African business partner in July.

Aperture`s infrastructure management software and services are aimed at helping companies manage their physical, technical and logical infrastructures, using advanced workflow and visual technology to make asset management flexible, user-friendly and cost-effective.

Verang MD Ben Smit says the software has been well received by prospective customers, with banks and large corporates showing particular interest. Verang expects to announce at least two major projects early next year. Verang is also working towards integrating Aperture visually-managed applications into other solutions, such as Verang`s own Focus property management solution.

Koblah Gbeho, Aperture`s senior applications engineer, says the Aperture solutions` flexibility and ease of use give the range an edge.

The Aperture solutions include Aperture Visual Solutions for Technology Management and Aperture Enterprise Solutions for Facility Management.

The Technology Management solutions enable customers to visually manage the physical location of devices, document device power and connectivity, track unique asset information and optimise processes.

The Enterprise Solutions for Facility Management allow for effective monitoring and management of facilities, real estate, personnel locations, equipment, furniture, network and infrastructures. The Enterprise Solutions run with Aperture Visual Information Manager, a software tool for building easily customised visual information systems. Aperture`s Smart Pictures Server allows for controlled live access to all Aperture-based drawings and data, to anyone with a Web browser.

Verang says the solutions allow users to produce easy to understand graphics that indicate the status of all equipment and assets, helping to make strategic planning faster and easier, and helping to avoid preventable failure of critical equipment.

Gbeho says one major client discovered through visual asset management that the company was paying leasing instalments on equipment that had already become obsolete, while others found that improved inter-departmental communications brought about by better facilities management translated into improved efficiency and bottom line.

He concludes: "What makes this product unique is that it was the first product designed from the ground up as a tool for developing visual information systems. It integrates a professional drawing system and rational database on desktop machines, and comprises a drawing system, integrated database and evaluation engine with a flexible report writer."
