App updates status from the grave

Anyone who has been concerned with what their final Facebook status may be in the event of their death, can now have peace of mind.

A morbid new Facebook application, If I Die, lets users compose a pre-written status update or a recorded video message to be posted to their Facebook profile when they die.

Once the final goodbye has been created, the user then appoints at least three friends who will have to verify their death before the final message is published for all to see.

The content of the final message is completely up to the user, although the app creators provide some creative examples, such as flipping the bird, telling your boss where to get off, revealing a secret, or even using it to prescribe who gets your personal belongings.

While death, and especially one's death on Facebook, may be the furthest thing from one's mind, over 4 000 people are already using the app.
