Apple has released a new iPod line-up, including an upgraded iPod Touch and iPod Nano, with a built-in video camera.
According to the company, the new iPod Touch features Apple's 'multi-touch' user interface, a 3.5-inch widescreen, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a built-in accelerometer and speaker.
The new iPod Touch, says Apple, now supports Genius Mixes, a feature which automatically creates up to 12 endless mixes of songs from a user's iTunes library. The device also supports the latest iPhone 3.1 software.
This software, notes Apple, allows for cut, copy and paste features, as well as Spotlight search, to easily search across iPod Touch folders or within mail, contacts and the calendar.
The new iPod Touch also offers a landscape keyboard for typing mails, making notes and searching Safari, along with a remote lock for MobileMe facility as well as anti-phishing features.
According to Apple, the 32GB and 64GB models offer up to 50% faster performance and better graphics support with Open GL ES 2.0.
The new line-up also features the iPod Classic in a new 160GB model, which can hold up to 40 000 songs, and the new iPod Nano, with a video camera allowing for H.264 VGA video capture in 640x480 pixels resolution, up to 30fps with AAC audio recording capability. The Nano also includes a built-in FM tuner.
According to Apple representative, the Core Group, the latest iPod line-up will be available in iStores and via the www.zastore.co.za, Apple premium resellers, Apple authorised resellers and selected retailers by the end of this week.
The Core Group could not provide local pricing as yet, but says pricing will be released before the devices go on sale.
