Apple iPod goes red

Apple is joining with U2 lead singer Bono and Bobby Shriver to express compassion for AIDS sufferers in Africa by contributing a portion of its revenue from a bright red iPod Nano to the struggle against the disease, reports Xinhua.

According to a company statement, $10 from every sale of the new music player will be donated to Red, an anti-aids organisation founded by Bono and Shriver.

Apple also offers a silver 2GB version of the Nano for $150 and a black 8GB model for $250.

Microsoft ships Vista to Korea

Microsoft plans to release Windows Vista in Korea at the same time as it will in the rest of the world, explains News.com.

But the software maker is still trying to finalise which versions of the new operating system it can have ready at launch.

The software maker said it will ship versions of Windows Vista Basic and Windows Vista Business that are specially tailored to meet the concerns of Korean regulators. These will be delivered at the same time Microsoft launches Vista in other markets - in November for large businesses, and more widely in January.

Take-Two`s Bully in court

Take-Two, publisher of the controversial video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, is having its latest game reviewed by a judge in Florida to determine if it can be sold to minors, according to MSNBC.

The game, Bully, is due to be released tomorrow on the PlayStation 2 games console and allows players to take the role of a troublesome schoolboy taking on bullies and teachers at a crumbling prep school, the Bullworth Academy.

The judge has ordered Take-Two employees to play Bully in front of him - a process that could take up to 40 hours to complete the game.

Google frees docs, spreadsheet programs

Google has made its word processing and spreadsheet programs available free to all comers on its Web site, marking the search leader`s latest effort to provide an alternative to Microsoft`s dominant software applications, says Pilotonline.

The software package, made available Wednesday, combines a spreadsheet application that Google introduced in June with a word processing program called Writely that it bought for an undisclosed amount in March.

As part of the expansion, the Writely name will disappear. The new package will be called Google Docs & Spreadsheets.

Dell unveils new products

Dell has introduced a range of new consumer electronics products at DigitalLife, an annual showcase for the latest in consumer technology, gaming and entertainment, reports PC World.

New and updated products from Dell introduced at DigitalLife include the Dell Photo AIO 966 and Photo 926 inkjet printers, the Dell W3707C and W3207C high-definition LCD televisions, and the Dell 1800MP projector and E207WFP (wide flat-panel) monitor combo.

Also on display was new mobile and high-performance features in the Dell XPS Gaming Notebook, including the nVidia GeForce Go 7950 GTX notebook GPU, the ability to tune Intel Core 2 Duo processor performance, and Dell`s exclusive XPS LightFX technology, which enables users to synchronise the system lights with supported music or games.
