Apple patents ticketing system

A new patent filed by Apple indicates the iPod-maker is looking to enter the concert ticketing business through its iTunes store, reports Telegraph.co.uk.

The barcode-based system will allow customers to purchase concert tickets that could be downloaded to their iPhones or iPods, and then used to gain entry to a venue.

In its filing the company also says the system would avoid the problems of concert-goers forgetting their tickets, as well as bringing the environmental advantages of a paperless system. It could also be used for discount codes or additional benefits.

RFID booms

ABI Research has released a report revealing the frequency identification (RFID) market is set to bounce back up in the next few years to reach $5 billion, states RFID World.

According to the research firm, almost 20% of RFID spend is based in the automobile industry.

ABI's practice director, Michael Liard, estimates the greatest increase will occur in 2014 when real-time location systems, baggage handling, item level tagging as well as e-government documents will be primarily made up of RFID technology.

Intel showcases MeeGo

Intel showcased the open source MeeGo operating system at the Developers Forum working both on a netbook as well as across multiple devices, says Electronista.

The Linux-based OS will have direct links into Intel's AppUp software store as well as social networking.

According to the chip maker, RFID will be able to send from one MeeGo device to another as well as suggest applications.
