Apple has given no indication of when its software developer Web site will be up again, after it was hacked last week.

No customer information was compromised during last week's hack of Apple's software developer Web site.

The computing giant revealed yesterday that it had to take its software developer site down after it was hacked on Thursday.

Apple says while the information on the site is encrypted, it cannot rule out the possibility developers' names, mailing addresses, and/or e-mail addresses may have been accessed. However, the company allegedly confirmed to Reuters that no customer information had been compromised.

In a statement posted on the Web site, Apple says it is now working around the clock on a complete overhaul of its database, server software and developer systems in an attempt to prevent future breaches.

The company informed developers if their membership is set to expire or has been extended, and all third-party apps will remain on Apple's app store for the duration of the downtime.

Apple did not specify when the site is expected to be up and running again.

Claiming responsibility

While Apple has not commented on the of the hacker, a Turkish researcher, Ibrahim Balic, has posted a video to YouTube claiming he is behind the attack. However, he says the hack was only done to demonstrate the vulnerability of the site.

"This is definitely not an hack attack. I have reported all the bugs I have found to the company and waited for approval. I am being accused of hacking but I have not given any harm to the system and I did not wanted to damage." [sic]

Balic claims he will be deleting all obtained through the hack. This morning he tweeted in Turkish: "Apple hear our voices, we're not malicious!"

ITWeb was unable to get comment from Apple's distributor in Southern Africa, Core Group, by time of publication.
