Apple tops US sales lists

Apple models grabbed the top spots in both the desktop and notebook computer US sales lists for the month of October, states Mac Rumors.

Among desktops, the company's new 21.5-inch iMac grabbed the no 1 spot, with the 27-inch iMac taking the third spot.

In the notebook category, Apple's entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro took top honours, with three other Apple notebooks finishing in the top 10.

AMD benefits from Intel settlement

The recent legal settlement between Intel and Advanced Micro Devices will bring new business to AMD and major benefit for its customers, says PC World.

Intel and AMD recently agreed to drop the lawsuits including antitrust cases brought by AMD. As part of the settlement, Intel agreed to pay $1.25 billion to AMD.

Both the settlement and antitrust ruling by the European Union against Intel have opened immediate market opportunities for AMD, says AMD CEO Dirk Meyer. AMD expects to get notebook business from the desktop-only buyer.

Lenovo bets on Indian small towns

India is a key emerging market for China computer manufacturer Lenovo, which is fine-tuning its to overcome the problems it faced in the subcontinent in the last fiscal, reports The Economic Times.

The manufacturer is focusing on offering entry-level PCs and widening its reach to smaller towns and cities, while also offering high-end products to strengthen its position in metropolitans.

Lenovo senior VP, Chen Shaopeng, says the company has introduced initiatives in India to take advantage of the huge demand in the country.
