A built-in modem, Ethernet and set up software that connects you to the Net in less than 10 minutes makes Apple's new iMac perfect for surfing the Web.
iTools, Apple's free suite of Internet services offered with the iMac, includes a Mac.com e-mail address, a place to share and store files and tools to build your own Web site.
Laetitia van den Berg, Apple product manager at SDD says the iMac is also ideal for mobile workers, thanks to the optional Airport enabling connection from just about anywhere.
If making music tickles your fancy, the CD-RW drive and preinstalled iTunes software enables you to import songs from CDs, convert them to MP3 files and arrange play lists of your favourite artists. If you want to listen to music away from your desk, you can burn custom CDs or download to your MP3 player. A built in Harman Kardon Odyssey audio system allows you to listen to Internet radio-broadcasts while you work. If your colleagues object, simply put your headphones on.
Create your own movies with the iMac's iMovie software. Simply shoot footage with your digital camcorder, then connect it to your iMac via the FireWire port. Use iMovie to import your footage and add titles, transitions, music and special effects. Once your masterpiece has been created, you can play it on the iMac, save it to videotape or share it on the Web using homepage, a feature of iTools.
Apple's advanced and intuitive operating system, Mac OS X is preinstalled in every iMac. Designed for working and playing on the Web, Mac OS X features Apple's new funky Aqua user interface. "The iMac is built on a super-modern foundation, resulting in unprecedented performance and reliability," says Van den Berg.
The iMac is equipped with a PowerPC G3 processor that speeds along at 700MHz and 256MB of RAM. Furthermore, there is plenty room to store all your creations as Apple has included up to a 60GB hard drive. Other features include a 56K V.90 fax modem memory expansion, supporting up to 1GB.
As with all Apple's products, the iMac comes with a one-year limited warranty.
