Application performance is not one-time event, says EOH Gallium

EOH Gallium's next user group to tackle future testing trends and project and portfolio management.

Johannesburg, 30 Jun 2010

According to research house Gartner, 86% of IT projects experience performance problems when first put into production.

For this reason, organisations need to manage the performance and availability of their applications in both pre-production and production, says Jacques Vermeulen, Application Life Cycle Management Consultant at EOH Gallium.

“By integrating testing and monitoring solutions to drive efficiency, mitigate risk, and reduce costs, and following best practices in deployment, organisations will successfully be able to manage their application performance and availability life cycle,” he continues.

“Companies are beginning to appreciate the fact that application performance is not a one-time event, but a cyclical process that is held captive by the dynamic nature of applications,” says Vermeulen.

Vermeulen recently addressed the topic of how application testing influences monitoring, at the Gallium User Group's latest meeting, held in Johannesburg in late May.

Another interesting session included Gallium technical trainer Sue Martin proving to the user forum how much depth there is in a testing career, and how broad the testing profession is. She also defined the personality profile of a good tester.

The next Gallium User Group meeting is scheduled for 26 August at a venue still to be determined. Topics to be discussed at this event include future testing trends and project and portfolio management (PPM). A BHP Billiton spokesperson will be providing 'testimony' of the mining giant's experiences of implementing PPM.
