Application switch specialist NetReality enters African market through Westcon

Adding to its array of networking products, networking technology distributor Westcon has announced that NetReality is making its first foray into the African market.

NetReality Inc, a leader in network application priority switching, enables organisations to prioritise mission-critical traffic, get the most out of existing bandwidth and postpone costly WAN upgrades.

Products are installed in hundreds of enterprises including Daimler Chrysler, AT Kearney, Domino`s Pizza and Nike. NetReality`s solution differs from others by its ability to monitor real-time WAN conditions and shape traffic accordingly.

"This strategy enforces priorities and bandwidth use is restricted only when conditions necessitate," says Imran Ebrahim, NetReality vendor channel manager at Westcon Enterprise.

He says that with the growing importance of corporate intranets and links to the Internet backbone, many corporations are experiencing congestion in core business transactions such as sales, logistics and finance.

"Bandwidth-hungry applications like video conferencing, voice and e-commerce compete with other applications for bandwidth. Corporations see bandwidth on the network link as a strategic communications resource demanding tools that let them maximise access rates, optimise quality of service, and regain control over the usage of their precious bandwidth so that business-critical applications run unhindered.

"Carriers and service providers are seeking ways to improve quality of service, monitor and enforce service level agreements, and continuously looking to add value-added services for their customers," says Ebrahim.

Christine Johansen-Hewitt from corporate communications at NetReality, says this is NetReality`s first partnership in Africa and the company is optimistic that the relationship with Westcon in Africa will allow both companies to work together.

"Our aim is to assess, penetrate and profitably sell our WiseWan products throughout Africa. Ebrahim sees NetReality`s WiseWan system as a perfect addition to the current networking solutions marketed by Westcon and believes that it could prove to be a bundled solution with the other network centric products that Westcon is offering," says Johansen-Hewitt.

NetReality`s WiseWan application priority switch enforces prioritisation of network applications to effectively allocate scarce bandwidth and optimise line utilisation to produce significant operational cost savings.

The product provides intelligent, dynamic bandwidth allocation of voice and data traffic at the circuit level in response to real-time monitoring of ever-changing bandwidth availability. Designed to shape traffic directly on the network access link, WiseWan employs an adaptive circuit-based shaping algorithm to optimise bandwidth utilisation on the fly, significantly cutting Internet work expenditures.
