Architecture enables massive storage

EMC, information infrastructure solutions provider, has unveiled a breakthrough approach to high-end storage with a new architecture purpose-built to support virtual centres, according to SunHerald.

EMC also announced the first storage system based on this architecture, which will serve as a cornerstone of virtual computing infrastructures that are transforming the technology landscape.

The new EMC Virtual Matrix Architecture integrates industry-standard components with EMC Symmetrix capabilities to deliver massive scalability.

Industry architecture no easy task

Enterprise architecture is vital to business success, but it's time-consuming, expensive and complex to develop, reports Computerworld.

Establishing an industry-wide architecture is even more difficult; the hotel industry was the first to create an industry architecture through its Hotel Technology Next Generation consortium.

Standardisation across the industry will facilitate data-sharing, streamline hotel processes, reduce costs and improve customer service.

Infortrend extends into enterprise

Storage vendor Infortrend is looking to build a new channel to take its first enterprise-class product range to market, writes Channel Pro.

Historically a manufacturer of RAID products for the entry space, the Taiwanese company is now keen to venture into the new markets: “It's a radical change for us,” says Jon Ashley, marketing director at Infortrend.

“We've traditionally played at the entry level, and now we're going into the mid-tier and enterprise with the launch of a new enterprise-class product this year: virtualised scaleout architecture.”
