Ardent, Abraxas announce strategic relationship

Johannesburg, 24 Jun 1998

Data management specialist Ardent Software Africa and Pretoria-based business intelligence systems house Abraxas Technologies, which markets and supports Brio Technology`s range of enterprise business intelligence solutions, are to focus jointly on the data warehousing and business intelligence solutions markets.

The two companies have agreed to follow the international business partnership struck between Ardent Software, formerly VMark Software, and Brio, whereby the two companies have implemented a strategic partnership programme consisting of products and services designed to "foster the delivery of best-of-breed warehousing and business intelligence solutions".

These solutions are based on the integration of Ardent`s DataStage data extraction and transformation solution, and Brio`s business intelligence software, which is designed to help improve business operations and decision-making processes.

Gary Segal, DataStage product manager, Ardent Software Africa, says: "Combining the analysis and reporting abilities of the Brio Enterprise line with DataStage`s ease of use and efficient extraction and transformation gives customers a practical set of tools to manage data more effectively."

Internationally, Brio and Ardent have also announced the technical integration of the Brio Enterprise family of business intelligence products with Ardent`s DataStage.

This integration enables Brio and DataStage customers to maximise their usage of corporate metadata throughout the organisation.

"DataStage`s ability to quickly consolidate customers` source data and perform transformations, coupled with Brio`s desktop reporting and analysis tools, gives users immediate access to clean, accurate data for accurate decision-making," says Michelle Leslie, Business Intelligence manager, Abraxas.

"As data warehouses grow in size and complexity, the seamless integration of key elements of the warehouse become a necessity.

"Combining Brio`s best-of-breed OLAP capabilities with DataStage`s extraction and transformation utilities lessens the maintenance workload."
