Are your teams agile and enabled to collaborate? asks Muggie van Staden.
Are your teams agile and enabled to collaborate? asks Muggie van Staden.

Is your organisation facilitating cross-functional team collaboration? And what tools, if any, are you are using to be more collaborative?

These are some of the questions that will be examined as ITWeb, in partnership with Obsidian Systems, conducts an online Smart Teamwork Survey during May.

The survey will explore, among other things, what is needed for South African companies to enable cross-function team collaboration and communication, and what teamwork challenges are most common.

"In an age where technology is in the hands of every member of your team, how does an organisation facilitate relevant, timeous and real communication, as well as having an overview of the parts that contribute to the bigger picture of your business goals?" asks Muggie van Staden, MD of Obsidian Systems.

"Do you know what your enabler is when your goal is 'digital transformation', and what is the driver of having such a competitive-edge?"

He believes smart teamwork is not so much about managing costs, but rather about building efficiency in integrating systems and saving time, optimising your team's productivity and therefore gaining more than a cost benefit.

Van Staden says there are many factors that contribute to the success or failure of smart teamwork projects. To start with, teams must have a platform that facilitates simple, real-time and integrated communication.

"Smart teamwork means your team is focused on collective goals and results, which contributes to the bigger picture and how your team interprets their roles. It creates diversity, bringing 'different' thinking to the team, and therefore better solutions. It also enables you to know where possible gaps are and to quickly support your peers," he says.

The results of this survey, together with the name of the draw winner, will be published on ITWeb.
