Israeli data communications company RAD has announced that it has appointed Ariel Network Solutions (ANS) as a Systems Integrator for the southern African region. ANS will focus on a number of strategic product lines which have shown tremendous growth worldwide: E1/T1 access products, ATM access products, sub E1/T1 multiplexers and baseband modems. According to Jeremy Lange, regional sales manager at RAD, the company during its 15 years of existence has seen revenues grow steadily having reached $114 million (R570-million) in 1996. "Approximately 30 percent of RAD`s employees engage in research and development. By devoting significant resources to product innovation, we are able to maintain a technological leadership role. Engineering activities span diverse disciplines, such as ATM broadband transmission, digital signal processing, high speed fibre technologies and network management software. "We`ve had success with our products locally but this has been mainly with our range of line driver which are sold through a number of distributors. However, internationally we are seeing exceptionally strong sales being generated from our strategic product lines with much of the business coming from networking projects within large corporations, carriers and PTTs. For example, our ATM (ACE) access product has been specified in many major global tenders from multinationals such as British and France Telecom," notes Lange. "To achieve similar success locally we need partners such as ANS who are active in projects of this nature and who have strong systems and network integration skills and the requisite service, support and geographic footprint." Mike Fisher, product manager at ANS says that the RAD products are totally complementary to the company`s existing offerings particularly as far as ATM access and voice/data integration is concerned. "We have had years of experience in these fields having successfully implemented these technologies for some of the country`s leading corporations. The appointment allows us to rapidly expand our portfolio in these areas and gives us the ability to offer enhanced end-to-end solutions to our customers, particularly as they move towards multimedia-type applications and services proliferate."
