Ariel Network Solutions Offering Space-Saving 128-port Channel Director

Johannesburg, 10 May 1998

For corporations with restricted space in their data centres, Ariel Network Solutions (ANS) is offering the new streamlined CD/9000-128 Channel Director from General Signal Networks. The new system offers half the capacity of the original 256-port CD/9000 in a trimmed-down package.

"Delivering all the power of a CD/9000, but in a smaller package, the CD/9000-128 provides the dynamic connectivity to manage the vital links between resources in an ESCON environment," said Corni Naud', product manager at ANS. "All the exclusive features that make a CD/9000 the logical choice for managing connections between mission-critical ESCON resources are supported."

These features include:

  • Logical Port Grouping - permits managers to construct an environment that reflects working relationships. That is, attached devices can be logically organised according to function, in easily identifiable groups, regardless of the physical proximity of the ports themselves.
  • Logical Partitioning - allows logical segmentation of a single CD/9000-128 into several smaller Logical Directors that can be dedicated to serving separate functions or to ease migration from existing Directors.
    • Real-time utilisation reporting delivers up-to-the-minute data about port groups and the Director.
The system is built to deliver maximum uptime and long-term, uninterrupted service with a variety of active and redundant subsystems to ensure that there is no single point of failure. Node processors distributed throughout the CD/9000`s modules and subsystems monitor ongoing system performance. System faults are reported to the Channel Director Control console application and the host.
