In a deal worth an estimated $21 million over the next five years, the recently established arivia.kom Nigeria has been awarded a contract to implement, maintain and support 2 400 VSAT satellite sites across Nigeria for the national Nigerian lottery.
The initial Implementation will begin with the roll-out of 1 200 VSAT lottery sites in eight major cities, which will be completed by the end of October.
A second batch of 1 200 sites will be rolled out in another 28 cities across the country by the end of February 2005. There is a separate contract and service level agreement for the maintenance of these sites until February 2010.
Aside from support and maintenance on this project, arivia.kom Nigeria is also responsible for the complete project management, contracted implementations and quality assurance.
As the preferred technology partner for the Nigerian National Sports Lottery Management Company Limited (NSLMCL), arivia.kom Nigeria has enlisted the services of its Nigerian business delivery partner Emperion West Africa to establish the new national VSAT communications backbone needed to enable the success of the national lottery.
Emperion is responsible for logistics and the connection and testing processes. NSLMCL and arivia.kom Nigeria will share the risk of initial funding for the VSAT infrastructure.
The primary stakeholder in NSLMCL is Fountain Trust Bank, a medium-sized financial institution among Nigeria`s 92 banks. NSLMCL has a licence to operate the national lottery in Nigeria for 35 years.
Before commencing with the physical roll-out of the VSAT communications infrastructure, arivia.kom Nigeria will conduct an initial site survey of 100 sites.
"Arivia.kom is one of the leading communication technology organisations in Africa, managing and operating one of the largest technology backbones on the continent," says Alistair McGlashan, CEO of arivia.kom Nigeria.
