IT company arivia.kom joined forces with Moneyweb this week to name SA`s CEO of the Year.
Pick `n Pay`s Sean Summers was named "Moneyweb CEO`s CEO of the Year" at an event in Johannesburg on Wednesday. The contest involved CEOs of JSE-listed companies nominating and voting for fellow CEOs.
[VIDEO]"Arivia.kom was asked to sponsor the award because it is not a JSE-listed company, and is definitely on top of its game in the IT services arena," says Leon Deist, market development executive at arivia.kom.
"It is a well known and well respected IT brand in SA, and, along with the strong brand names of The Gordon Institute of Business Science and PricewaterhouseCoopers, accentuates the value and importance of the whole concept. As a company we wanted to acknowledge the vital role played by our business leaders in this country."
The eight finalists were: Adrian Gore of Discovery, Brian Joffe of Bidvest, Jacko Maree of Standard Bank, Nallie Bosman of Absa, Sean Summers of Pick `n Pay, Stephen Koseff of Investec, Steve Ross of Edcon and Sizwe Nxasana of Telkom.
Zeth Malele, CEO of arivia.kom, presented the award to Summers` wife, Lorna, as Summers was overseas at the time.
Malele said he had been "pleasantly shocked" by the calibre of nominees and appreciated the opportunity to recognise them. The fact that the event recognised CEOs and not CIOs was "neither here nor there", he said.
"We are in the business of providing business solutions, we are not in the IT industry purely for the sake of technology."
He said the event gave the company the opportunity to align with the best in business.
