IT law firm Buys Inc will introduce legal artificial intelligence robots, or Virtual In-house Lawyers, online from early next year.
Founder and MD Reinhardt Buys made the announcement at a gathering of clients, partners and stakeholders in Johannesburg last week.
The three robots, named Stacy, Dave and Nathan, are being tested and developed. During his presentation, Buys said the 'robots` were intended to offer online legal counselling on demand at any time of day.
Buys urged clients to engage with the robots as often as possible once they go online, in order to "teach" them how to interact with humans.
"They are already pulling wisecracks like answering questions with a sharp 'what`s it to you`, so they are learning fast," Buys noted.
The company also outlined its plans for the future, until 2015. In the coming year the company plans to give its Web site visitors access to attorneys and legal counsel at any time of the day, said Buys.
"To give them attorneys who don`t just work from eight to five," he added.
