Ascential`s DataStage XE integrates SAP and multi-data sources

Johannesburg, 07 Sep 2001

Information asset management solution provider Ascential Software has introduced a new version of its data integration platform, DataStage XE, specifically designed to expand data integration and enterprise scalability for mySAP BI users.

The specialist version of DataStage, which integrates mySAP BI-based data with a wide variety of information systems, follows the international strategic reseller agreement signed between SAP and Ascential Software in April.

Under the agreement, SAP is reselling Ascential DataStage as the data integration platform for mySAP BI and SAP Business Information Warehouse (SAP BW) environments. The new version of DataStage XE extends this functionality by allowing users to open up and share data from mySAP BI with other enterprise applications, systems and data warehouses.

Additionally, the solution provides companies the ability to manage meta data from their entire business intelligence solution and includes data quality assurance tools.

"The challenge with international agreements is always to make them work locally," says Alastair Jacobs, business development manager at Ascential Software South Africa. "We have bridged that gap seamlessly and users of both DataStage and SAP in this country have never had it so easy to integrate disparate data sources."

The customised DataStage XE has also created great potential for Ascential locally, opening up the substantial SAP user market to the company.

"As the volume and variety of data managed in SAP BW environments continues to expand, our clients increasingly need to leverage and re-use these strategic information assets across the enterprise," says Jacobs.

"Using these solutions, companies can extract data from virtually any source - including enterprise applications, XML or e-business data, legacy systems, open data stores, flat file databases and mainframe data - and create business-useful data warehouses based on SAP BW," he concludes.
