Asia still wary of open source

Organisations in Asia are not as ready to go open source for key business applications as compared with the UK and US, according to regional experts, reports ZDnet Asia.

Lawrence Goh, executive director for technology consulting at Accenture, says the sweet spot for organisations in the region when it comes to open source deployment lies in infrastructure, system software and software to support custom application development.

“Open source middleware and content management solutions are the areas that have seen the most deployment in production, he adds.

Ericsson tackles video network traffic

Ericsson indicates, as online video rapidly grows and more consumers embrace on-demand entertainment, IP video will represent more than 90% of network traffic in the next few years, states Rapid TV News.

Ericsson says it intends to roll out its Media Delivery Network designed to enable operators to deploy solutions that overcome the issues caused by increasing video traffic in its networks.

The media-centric network supports multi-channel TV and video from the same core infrastructure, as well as providing a content management system.

Siemens unveils content management system

Siemens has unveiled an integrated Teamcentre software-based content management solution, says PR Newswire.

The enterprise-wide publishing and content management offering allows companies to capture information; from the onset of product design all the way through to multi-media updates to publications for commercially available products.

"What makes this offering unique is that it's a content management solution specifically designed within the context of product lifecycle management," says Ed Shinouskis, vice president of Siemens IT Solutions and Services.
