Assistance for Africa: new Cabletron support centre opens

Johannesburg, 02 Dec 1999

Cabletron users in Africa will now be able to access the company`s new Global Technical Assistance Centre (GTAC) in Shannon, Ireland for support.

The centre is Cabletron Systems` fourth GTAC and will provide support services to European, Middle Eastern and African markets.

Part of Cabletron`s Global Technology Services Division, the newest centre complements existing operations in North America, Asia, and Latin America.

Martin May, country manager of Cabletron Systems SA, says the centre has the capability to provide service and support in eight languages and to offer proactive end-to-end management of customer requirements on a global basis.

Prior to the establishment of the Shannon GTAC, all Cabletron telephone technical support activities in Africa were decentralised, with local offices taking responsibility for support of their customer bases.

"While we will continue to offer the highest levels of support in South Africa, Cabletron`s objective in setting up the Shannon GTAC is to establish a showcase call centre to provide a qualitative improvement over the level of service available in the more remote areas of Africa," says May.
