AST brings expertise to Vodacom Mozambique

Following its recent decision to commence operations in Mozambique, Vodacom Mozambique has appointed the AST Group as one of its operational and business support partners in the region. The contract value is estimated at R7 million.

The project entails the programme management for the successful implementation of the operational support systems environment, which includes a customer care and billing application, an ERP application, an action request and incident management application and a fraud management, revenue assurance, MIS and interconnect billing application. Programme management also indirectly oversees the implementation of the electronic voucher distribution system, as well as the value-added services solution.

"Through our success with a similar implementation for Vodacom Congo, we are able to bring the necessary experience and expertise to Vodacom Mozambique. This enables the customer to significantly reduce the risks associated with a `green fields` project and also benefit from the economies of scale in the areas such as cost, unique pre-developed functionality and standardisation," explains Steve Shaw of AST Telecommunications.

The Fraud Management solution to be implemented at Vodacom Mozambique, called ContinuAM, has been developed by AST AIS, a business unit of the AST Group.

It has a modular structure, which effectively allows the product to grow as Vodacom`s requirements increase. The effects of fraud directly affect the bottom line, and ContinuAM will initially focus on fraud detection, revenue assurance and interconnect billing, and by design will also provide valuable MIS information. The fact that this system has been developed locally will allow fast turnaround for support and for modifications for African conditions.
