AST customers guaranteed accelerated distribution of data

AST Enterprise Systems Management, a division of the AST Group, recently announced that recent tests on BMC Software`s Patrol DB-Unload product demonstrated a 10-to-1 improvement in unload rates for large data warehouses. Tests indicated that Patrol DB-Unload provided a faster means of extracting data for movement across the enterprise, assisting business users with the instant business indicators for each workday.

"With the explosion of data that companies collect, analyse and disseminate to an increasing number of business users, database administrators are challenged to find new ways to improve the availability and timeliness of this data," says Martyn Healy, MD of AST ESM, SA distributors of BMC Software. "Turning data into useful information can help companies make more strategic decisions in effort to increase profitability and market share."

IBM and BMC conducted testing on the IBM RS/6000 SP to show how Patrol DB-unload would speed the data unload process in the IBM DB2 Universal Database Enterprise-Extended Edition environment. Testing indicated that in a production environment where data needs to be moved out of the database, the combination of Patrol DB-Unload and DB2 Universal Database`s native load utility can accelerate the distribution of data.

In the tests, Patrol DB-Unload demonstrated significant improvements in data unloading in three table sizes, scaling across 20, 200 and 372 million rows. Using Patrol DB-Unload, time for the migration of 373 gigabytes of data decreased from over 16 hours to 95 minutes. The faster time resulted from the database files and to bypass the overhead of the database engine.

The Patrol DB-Unload product increases DB2 Universal Database availability by performing bulk data unloads significantly faster than the native RDBMS products. It also increases timeliness of data by performing high-speed bulk data unloads, provides fastest unloads available and enhances flexibility with multiple unload options.
