AST Enterprise Systems Management has introduced two new solutions from BMC Software that offers enhanced DB2 performance as database information content soars. These solutions represent the first two fully integrated OS/390 software solutions since BMC`s merger earlier this year with Boole & Babbage.
"Vendors offering solutions that integrate diverse products from different companies allow users to maximise their mainframe investments, ultimately receiving better performance and saving money without having to commit valuable resources to in-house coding," says Martyn Healy, MD of AST ESM, a division of Advanced Software Technologies-Abraxas (AST-A).
Utility Manager for DB2 provides integration and interoperability between BMC Software DB2 utility products, and offers customers an effective tool to respond to the rapid growth rate of information in DB2 databases.
A further solution, the integration of MAINVIEW for DB2, AutoOPERATOR and Opertune for DB2, offers customers the ability to dynamically adjust resources to suit workload demands, solving critical business issues surrounding availability and service-level requirements without impacting the overall system or individual applications.
Integrated, this new solution offers customers far greater value than the sum of its individual parts. Now, thread availability can be improved, new active logs can be allocated according to needs, shortages can be anticipated, and log buffer space and EDM pool size can be increased, all in a single immediate and automated process, rather than in a multi-step, manual procedure.
Both UTILITY MANAGER and the combination of MAINVIEW for DB2, OPERTUNE and AutoOPERATOR deliver the automation that AST ESM strives to offer its customers. "The combination of the MAINVIEW technologies with the traditional BMC utilities and tools is accelerating our ability to respond to the rapidly changing needs of the OS/390 market," adds Healy.
