AST ESM teams with Mercury Interactive

Johannesburg, 22 May 2002

Mercury Interactive Corporation, the leading provider of enterprise testing and application performance management software, and AST Enterprise Solutions Management (ESM), a division of the AST Group, one of SA`s largest enterprise software companies, announced today that AST will become Mercury Interactive`s first reseller in SA to offer Topaz, a suite of application performance management (APM) products.

Mercury Interactive`s Topaz enables organisations to measure the performance and availability that end-users experience, then correlate this information to system metrics to quickly resolve issues before they impact users.

"Mercury Interactive chose to team with AST due to their extensive experience, available resources and excellent track record within the enterprise market," says Graeme Allcock, sales director, Mercury Interactive SA. "Mercury Interactive`s approach to application performance management is very comprehensive and will enable AST ESM`s Systems Management customers to ensure the reliability and performance of their applications from an end-user`s perspective."

"AST wanted to improve upon the existing operational function of providing Systems Management solutions to its clients and move towards a model that considered business issues and not just operational issues," says Haydn Pinnell, GM of AST ESM`s Systems Management business unit. "Integral to the process of selecting the appropriate product has been to look for - what we term - `new age` performance management technology and a company that could bridge the gap between IT and business.

"Mercury Interactive provides the end-to-end business view and AST brings experience from the traditional operational side. With the capabilities inherent in Topaz, we can ensure that both the line of business managers and IT align their business objectives to maximize their ROI," explains Pinnell.

The benefits are immediate. "Topaz provides instant data, in a single view that is relevant to both IT and business managers," says Pinnell. "Enabling quick triage and resolution of performance problems, rather than waiting for IT to inform the rest of the business about problems."

Topaz is a modular scalable platform for APM. Says Pinnell: "Key to choosing Topaz was the competitive-edge that this software provides by the following unique functionalities: quantifying the business impact of performance problems and helping identifying the root cause of performance problems."

By using Topaz, organisations are able to monitor the performance of their applications, receive alerts when issues arise, identify problems and diagnose their cause. It is the only technology that measures the end-user experience 24x7 and correlates performance issues to their root cause. As a result, organisations can ensure users are receiving solid performance and quickly resolve any infrastructure problems before end-users are impacted.
