AST facilitates Carrier SA`s expansion programme

Johannesburg, 27 May 2002

Carrier SA`s expansion programme, which has seen it relocate its offices from Midrand to Selby, has been facilitated by AST Networks` Philips evergreen policy which allowed the company to seamlessly upgrade its PABX systems. AST Networks is a division of the AST Group.

Carrier SA is part of the international Carrier organisation, world leaders in the manufacture and sale of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, hvac systems and products.

When the company expanded to two buildings in Selby, it needed to add an additional PABX system from AST Networks to the existing SOPHO iS 3030 which it had in Midrand. The decision was taken to invest in another SOPHO iS 3030 and standardise on the Philips` technology.

The company now has two fully networked SOPHO iS3030 systems, one at its head office where it operates 60 extensions and another in an adjacent shared services building nearby, where an additional 40 extensions are available. Carrier South Africa has applied for a second ISDN Line and will now expand its extension volume to 200 extensions.

The SOPHO iS3030 is a fully digital Integrated Services Private Branch eXchange (ISPBX) capable of switching voice, data and image. It is designed to cover the communication needs of both medium and large sized organisations with a capacity of 288 ports with an option to expand to a maximum of 608 ports used for extensions, trunks and tie lines.

The Carrier SA system includes fax and modem facilities through some 60 extensions. AST Networks` auto attendant system will enable customers to dial direct to the extension they require.

The advance feature package of the SOPHO iS 3030 series includes Euro-ISDN and networking support, modular architecture facilitating the future growth requirements of Carrier and flexibility allowing new communication requirements to be met as the company needs these.

Furthermore, the local and remote management and maintenance provisions are added features, as is the state-of-the-art technology and compact design. The system is suitable for installation in most office environments.

Carrier SA is also currently investing in equipment from AST Networks for its branch in Namibia which will allow it to grow and develop to meet the needs of the marketplace.
