AST implements content management solution for Unisa

AST Microsoft Solutions, a business unit of the AST Group, has successfully implemented a content management solution for Unisa, enabling it to publish content on its corporate Web site without intervention, additional maintenance cost or without using third-party software.

"Being a leader in distance learning in Africa, Unisa`s Web site is an essential access point for marketing, communication and access to information," explains Denis Parker, Business Unit Manager for AST Microsoft Solutions. "Unisa therefore needed a solution that allowed them to update their Web site quickly and easily," adds Parker.

"With more than 14 000 pages and +/- one million hits per month, we needed to radically transform the way we managed our corporate Web site," explains Louise Schmidt, Head: Cluster for Corporate Information and Internet Management in the Department of Corporate Communication and Marketing at Unisa. "We had to find a way to effectively manage and ensure quality of Web content, marketing and branding. AST`s cmSYS allowed us to do this."

"Our customised software, cmSYS, allows the Unisa Web site to be constantly updated by Unisa staff identified as `content editors` or `page masters`, who have access to the system and can submit changes to existing pages or add new pages without using third-party software," adds Parker. "In addition, integrated workflow allows for pages to be submitted for approval. This saves on time and thereby ensuring updated information"
