In a strategic partnership, the AST Group`s Secure Transaction Services Division and i-Web have formed a joint venture, called AST WebAccess, to provide Public Internet Access solutions by means of a self-service terminal, which will enable `end-to-end` kiosk solutions for industries such as financial services, retail, hospitality and manufacturing.
The self-service terminal, i-Web, is a multi-functional kiosk offering a variety of self-service Internet, intranet and information services. The utilisation of this multi-functionality enables AST WebAccess to develop a new concept for the widespread provision of Internet access in a cost-effective and efficient manner.
"The biggest challenge for organisations is to deliver large amounts of information to the end-user in the most easily accessible form, without discrimination," explains Frank Nunan of AST WebAccess. "This is particularly true in SA, with its mix of First and Third World populations, where a large proportion of people have little or no access to the information super-highway.
"AST WebAccess believes that a viable solution to this unique challenge is the interactive Internet Kiosk," continues Nunan. "The kiosk can be both a branding and an education device, introducing users to the benefits of online information services and retail transactions. It can also be used to encourage 24-hour self-service, and stimulate use of online information services directly from existing Web pages."
The i-Web kiosk is a touch-screen-enabled Internet access device, which also has a ruggedised keyboard for data input, designed to provide the user with a full interactive Internet experience. A sealed keyboard, housed touch-screen, minimal number of moving parts and trouble-free installation help ensure that the iWeb represents a robust, low maintenance and cost-effective Public Internet Access Solution. It is available with a variety of connectivity options, including Ethernet, ISDN, PSTN, cable or wireless. A number of optional extras and peripherals are available, depending on the client`s requirements and on the application.
AST WebAccess has entered into an agreement with Cape Town-based communications application service provider, Conexys (Pty) Ltd, to supply the iCommand Unified Messaging Service to users, in association with the kiosk solution.
The iCommand system allows subscribers to access all forms of electronic messaging, including SMS, e-mail, voice mail and fax at a single point - ideally at WebAccess kiosks. This is particularly applicable to IT "have-nots" in an organisation. However, it can also be used by sales, technical and executive personnel to manage their messages from a central point.
AST`s intellectual capacity, as well as the business model and strong customer base, forms the basis for the integrated services solutions business.
Ideally positioned as a leading technology solutions company focused on selected industries, AST unlocks substantial value for its clients. The AST Group - a trustworthy and innovative ICT company.
